The small village of Sougia in the south-west of Crete,1hour from Paleochora with a car and has managed to remain unaffected by the growth of tourism in Crete. It is still a peaceful haven, with a long beach, and excellent places to eat.
You can visit Sougia either on foot from Paleochora with the E4 trail, or with the ferry boat. Sougia is an ancient city used to called Syia.You can find plenty of archaeological sites including the magnificent Lissos and Eliros.
